The unique character of Kaunas city is its location in the junction of two rivers. However, river are not visible in the city. The goal of the project is to bring city to the rivers.
Six steps are defined how to achieve that: create attraction points near water, emphasize identity of the riversides, improve accessibility towards the water, regenerate black zones into lively neighbourhoods, keep the character of the urban pattern, and create network of public spaces.
The new masterplan extends city over the river; the island and merges with the park. Island is converted into active neighbourhood with living, sports, cultural and recreational functions. New neighborhood offers qualities of living in the heart of the city, next to the park and the water.
